Bladeless Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (Femto Cataract)
The cataract surgery in Delhi has been taken to a newer level by the advent of Femto second laser cataract surgery . Femto second laser is used for creating primary and side port clear corneal incision. These incisions are self-sealing and are of perfect configuration and depth, as desired by the surgeon.
Femtosecond laser also enables precise capsular opening (capsulorrhexis) of the desired dimensions, which is perfectly circular. This allows IOL’s to be centered perfectly. This is even more important with premium lenses like multifocal, Trifocal and Symphony. Femtosecond laser also helps to fragment the nucleus, and soften the nucleus thus making the process of phacoemulsification safer and smoother. Femtosecond laser can also be used to make accurate incisions on the cornea which can correct astigmatism.
How does Femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) work?
Femtosecond laser emits optical pulses, with a duration, in the range of Femtosecond (1 Femtosecond is equal to 10-15 Sec). The critical aspect of Femtosecond laser technology is the speed at which light is fired. The focused ultrashort pulses (10-15 Sec) eliminate the collateral damage of surrounding tissue. Femtosecond laser energy is absorbed by tissue, resulting in plasma formation. This plasma of free electrons and ionized molecules rapidly expands, creating cavitation bubbles. The force of cavitation bubble creation separates the tissue. The process of converting laser energy into mechanical energy is known as photo disruption. This is the principle used in FLACS.
